Grading Policy

Student Expectations:

Students are expected to complete all assignments on time.

Students are expected to spend 10 minutes daily studying (memorizing) vocabulary in addition to regularly assigned homework.

Students are expected to write down homework assignments that are posted on the board.  Most assignments will be due on Fridays unless we are out of school.  If that's the case, then they will be due on Thursday.

It is a student's responsibility to obtained work missed when a student is not in class regardless of the reason.  Students can check the absence folder, check with their partner, check the homework assignments written on the board, check Señorita Wilson’s web site (http://srtawilson.tripod.com), and/or ask Miss. Wilson.

Assignments (including tests and quizzes) not handed in due to legitimate absences can be made up for full points if handed-in within 1 week of an absence.  After one week, these assignments cannot be made up and will receive a 0.

Note on attendance: Due to the highly participatory nature of this course, attendance is VERY IMPORTANT.  Students lose Daily Language Practice points for any unexcused absence or tardiness.  Cutting a class will result in the loss of all points along with administrative intervention.

0                   (0 points) – activity was not handed-in

25% Daily Language Practice

  • Each student will start the grading period with 100 points.  In order to keep all the points you must:

1.     Look engaged (not sleeping, writing, or talking)

2.     Speak Spanish when we are speaking Spanish and speak English if we are speaking English.

Everyone MUST participate in class!

Págames (Pay me's)

If you violate a language rule, you will get a "págame" which means "pay me."  1 págame = 5 point reduction in participation grade.  The good news is, you can make up your págames.  Here's how:

  1. You can make me a card which is worth 10 points (or 2 págames).  It can be in English or in Spanish.  You must compliment me - You've been the most inspirational teacher, I love this class, etc.
  2. Give me a handshake which is worth 10 points (or 2 págames).  You may do only one card and one handshake per grading period.
  3. Write me a 100 word essay which is worth 5 points.  It must be in Spanish and it must be in your handwriting.  You may only turn in two a week and they all must be turned in one week before the grading period ends.  Any paper turned in after the deadline will not be accepted.
